Gus did not want to go on a long journey. He wanted to stay at home and play. "Don't kick up a fuss, Gus!" said Dad. "It's too hot here. The grass is dry and tough and the river has nearly dried up." Gus did kick up a fuss, though - a really big fuss - and the longer the journey went on, the worse he got!
